The Barn Project

The Barn Project is a collaboration of youth coming together and using their talents to produce a live audio and video recording of one worship night. Yesterday was the big night and we spent the entire day in production with Generation Revive from set-up all the way to break down. Here is some of what went into making this all happen!

Right Choice Ministries was kind enough to let us use their property for this project. Their land has several barns and this one is the one used for their youth nights. We’d soon turn this empty stage into a real looking barn.

When we arrived to begin setting up, the barn had no heat on! It was cold enough inside for us to see our own breath. A shot of Kevin demonstrating. Shortly after, we got the heat on and it was go time.

This was our first official shoot as Sableton Pictures and having Kevin to give us a hand as our fourth shooter was a huge help! The guys from Generation Revive hand built the cross that we placed on the stage and the girls helped with setting up the mason jars and candles for the home and cozy look. Loved the team effort!

This is Michael, a hipster, musician and an audio engineer. For this project he was our sound engineer. From setting up microphones, mic stands, amps, cables, adjusting levels during the recording and everything audio related, he took care of it all by himself. Not to mention, the guitars to the left of the picture are his and they weren’t just there as props, he was also a guitarist on this worship set! Personally, I’ve never heard of someone doing something like this before but he did it and did a heck of a job at both!

For the shooting of this worship night we wanted to go with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera and the new Pocket Cinema Cameras. We chose these cameras for their 13 stops of dynamic range and ability to shoot in higher bit depth than DSLR cameras resulting in a much cleaner image. The one pictured is the bigger one of the four we used on this shoot and this particular one was manned by the one and only, Edgar!

This was our work station where we took care of any camera problems that we had and was our dumping station for all the footage we filmed throughout the night.

This day seriously couldn’t have gone any smoother and not only was the entire project a success but the worship being the essence of it all was amazing. I can’t wait to get started on post production and finish the final cut to share with you all! It will be five videos in total so stay tuned for their release! Follow us on Instagram, @Sableton.
